Practical Information

Travel to Leiden

The historical university city of Leiden is situated right between Amsterdam and The Hague. Direct trains run every 15-30 minutes from the Amsterdam Centraal, Utrecht Centraal, and Den Haag Holland Spoor International train stations.

If you plan to travel by plane, you can use Schiphol Airport (direct trains to Leiden take ~15-20 minutes and run continuously) or Rotterdam Airport (trains with one stopover in Rotterdam take ~60 mins).

From the UK it is also possible to come by ferry. From Hoek van Holland Harbour (two daily services from Harwich) you can get to Leiden by train via The Hague in ~45 minutes. From IJmuiden (daily service from Newcastle) you can get to Leiden via Haarlem or Amsterdam in ~60 minutes.

Accommodation

We have negotiated deals for EHBEA delegates with several hotels in Leiden, all within a 5–30-minute walk from the Pesthuis. Below are the options and discounted rates per night (valid 14-18 April 2026). You can of course also choose to look for alternative accommodation, but it is advised not to wait too long with booking. Due to a big local event (the Bloemencorso), accommodation is likely to get booked up and rates to rise accordingly.

Note on pricing: Hotels in Leiden are notoriously expensive. Even though we reserved rooms 6+ months in advance, the flower season is a structural price-driving factor in April-May. The best price was offered by the Fletcher Hotel due to a long-standing relationship with our university, but because of another event they have only 20 rooms available from 14-18 and another 40 from 15-18 April. In some cases, it may be worth considering e.g. the Ibis for one night and Fletcher for the remaining nights. In case you are able to afford one of the more expensive options, please be mindful of those conference attendees that may need to rely on the better priced options. Also, as you can see below, we offer support for sharing twin rooms (but with limited availability).
